Our Blessing Song by Gary Bower "May your future be bright. May your sorrows be few. May your family grow closer. May your friendships be true..."
These opening words of our new song express the heart of our family to yours. In 1982, a dear friend challenged me to pronounce a blessing on each of my kids every night for seven days. That friend (who is now in the presence of Jesus) and his challenge made a powerful impact on me, and the practice never ended. Since then, over 10,000 nights have passed, and Jan & I still pronounce a nightly blessing on each of our children... individually, intimately, and in their hearing. Each blessing is different, sincere, and eagerly anticipated. And the things we have spoken in faith, God has turned into reality over and over again. In September 2009 while at the Blueberry Festival in Plymouth, Indiana, a gentle tune and some simple words popped into my head. That was the beginning of "Our Blessing Song", which we hope to share with you on this website soon. The music and lyrics were written by me, and the song is being recorded by 12 beautiful singers (my 9 daughters, 2 daughters-in-law, and Jan). It is meant to bring encouragement and a ray of hope. These days may seem dark, but God has a bright future planned for you. We want to drown out the sound of curses you may have heard during your day, replacing them with blessings. There's always someone ready to take away your money, pride, and dignity, but God has blessings in mind for you that no one can ever take away. Click here to read the lyrics of "Our Blessing Song".
We flew our daughter Dena and her beautiful voice in from Tennessee for the holidays and recorded on New Year's Eve.
Jasmine (15) and Brittany (17) shook off whatever jitters they thought they'd have, and sang from their hearts with power and precision.
